CROSS COUNTRY – YEAR 3 AND YEAR 4
Birdwell was host to the Hoyland Schools Sport Partnership Year 3 and Year 4 Cross Country Festival 2022 which took place on Friday 11th November.
Before the racing began all schools joined together with spectators for a minute’s silence to honor Remembrance Day, uniting across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.
These courageous children ran in the open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or wet grass. The course for the Y3 and Y4 was typically 2 laps around the vast school field – it is a very long distance! It includes surfaces of grass and mud, tree roots and passes through woodlands around the open field. It’s a very tough discipline – and only for the brave!
It is both an individual and a team sport; runners are judged on individual places and teams by a points-scoring method.
Well Done to all our runners, they did an amazing job, many received individual places and medals and then the joint scores for both year 3 and year 4 gave us the edge on the other schools by only a margin of two points – so it was very close, but we were the CHAMPIONS!
