CLIMBING COMPETITION – JANUARY 2023

Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses.
While bouldering can be done without any equipment, our climbers used climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry and to provide a firmer grip, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls.
Traverses, which are a form of boulder problem, require the climber to climb horizontally from one end to another. The artificial climbing walls at The Climbing Works allow boulderers to climb indoors in areas without natural boulders. Our eighteen Year 5 and Year 6 climbers were split into 3 teams and took to the climbing challenges like ducks to water. It was a very early start for these youngsters, meeting up from 7.15 am on a very wintry and dark morning, to be able to travel all the way to Woodseats in Sheffield to the venue for the event. They climbed solidly for 2 hours with some children making even the difficult challenges look easy. Well Done to everyone, no doubt there will be achy arms tomorrow morning!
